For consultants

A steady trickle of the right conversations, not a campaign you dread.

Independent consultants sell on credibility, which makes cold outreach feel like the wrong register entirely. Done badly it costs standing you spent years building. Done quietly, narrowly and specifically, it reads like a note from a peer and simply works.

Independent consultants sell on credibility, and cold outreach feels like the wrong register for it. Done badly it costs you standing; done quietly and specifically it just works.

Where it breaks down

It has to sound like you

One template that reads like software is worse than sending nothing.

Tiny target lists

You may only want thirty of the right companies, which makes wasted messages expensive.

No time between engagements

Prospecting has to happen while you are delivering, or it does not happen.

A run, for you specifically

  1. 01

Point it at your site or write two lines about the work you want more of.

  2. 02

Narrow the segments hard — fewer, better companies.

  3. 03

Edit the first few drafts so the voice is yours; the brief carries it forward.

  4. 04

Keep the daily pace low and let it run in the background.

What you look at day to day: Replies, and the short list of companies worth a second message.

It has to sound like you, or not go out

One template that reads like software is worse than sending nothing, because the recipient may well be someone you will meet at a conference. That is the real constraint on consultant outbound, and it is why most of it never starts.

Drafts here are short, written after reading the company, and fully editable. Correct the first few until the voice is yours and the brief carries it forward — you are steering a writer, not filling in a form.

Small lists make every wasted message expensive

You may only want thirty of the right companies. At that size a mediocre fit is not a rounding error, it is ten per cent of the list. Precision matters more than reach.

So narrow hard: keep the segments where you can point at comparable work, drop the rest, and let the agent explain why each company was chosen so you can veto the ones that do not belong.

Prospecting while delivering

The structural problem is timing. Prospecting has to happen during an engagement, or it happens after — and after means a gap in income you can measure.

A low daily pace running in the background is the shape that fits: a steady trickle of the right conversations, reviewed in minutes between client work, instead of a campaign you dread launching when a project ends.

Why consultants pick this

  • You sell on credibility and cannot afford outreach that sounds automated.
  • Your target list is small and precision beats volume.
  • Prospecting has to run while you are delivering.
  • You want to edit the voice once, not write every message.

Questions

I do not have a website that explains my work. Can I still use it?
Yes. If there is nothing readable to work from, you write a couple of lines about the work you want more of and the run continues from that instead.
How much does it cost to start?
Looking is free and needs no card: type your web address and watch a full run on your own domain. Sending starts at $49 a month, which is one pre-warmed mailbox and a hard cap of twenty-five emails a day.
Why only twenty-five emails a day?
Because that is what a mailbox can send cold without hurting its own reputation. The cap is enforced in the backend rather than offered as a setting. More capacity means more mailboxes, and provisioning a new one takes about twenty-four hours because the account is real.
Do I have to write anything?
No. The agent reads your site, works out who buys from you, finds named people at named companies, verifies the addresses and writes one email per person. Your job is to read what it proposes and correct what you disagree with.
Is cold outreach like this compliant?
Every message carries an opt-out link, unsubscribes are suppressed immediately and permanently across every campaign, and we write business-to-business to named roles. We do not send to consumers.
